What the Specs Mean
- Total weight
- Everything in one square yard: yarn, backing and coating. It is the industry standard number for comparing turf. Heavier usually means fuller and longer wearing.
- Face weight
- Only the yarn above the backing, per square yard. It tells you how much grass you are actually looking at.
- Pile height
- How tall the blades stand from the backing to the tip. Taller reads lusher. Shorter is easier to clean and better for pets, play and putting.
- Gauge
- The spacing between stitch rows. A smaller number means the rows sit closer together, so the turf is denser.
- Dtex
- Yarn thickness: the weight in grams of 10,000 meters of yarn. Higher dtex means a thicker, stiffer blade. Two numbers mean two yarns in the blend.
- Thatch
- The short curly yarn down near the backing. It props the blades up and adds the tan and brown tones a real lawn has.
- Finish coating
- The polyurethane coat on the back that locks every stitch in place.
