Sport construction built for sleds,
not sprinklers

A lot of turf for gyms on the market is landscape product with a new label. Mighty Sport is a different build: 1.1 inch pile at 77 ounces per square yard, tufted dense enough to take sled runners, cleats, and daily foot traffic without matting flat in six months. It is the same SGS tested sport construction we supply for full sports fields, cut down to gym dimensions.

We will also tell you straight what our rolls are not. Some gym applications, padded plyometric zones and kids areas over bare concrete, call for a foam-backed specialty turf we do not stock. What our rolls fit best: sled tracks, turf strips, functional training zones, and indoor agility areas, glued over concrete, rubber flooring, or a shock pad your installer sources. Full specs are on the Mighty Sport product page.

Where our gym turf rolls work

01

Sled lanes and strips

The most common cut we do. A 15 ft roll run at full width makes a seam-free sled track, or your installer cuts it lengthwise for two 7.5 ft lanes. Typical lane lengths run 30 to 60 ft, and yard lines get inlaid or painted after the glue-down.

02

Functional training zones

Battle ropes, lunges, tire flips, band work. The 77 ounce face weight keeps fibers upright without infill, so the surface stays flat and consistent instead of matting into a trail where everyone trains.

03

Sports facilities

Batting cages, indoor agility rooms, speed schools, team training buildings. Same dense sport construction we supply for outdoor fields, ordered by the roll and freighted to job sites across CA, NV, and AZ.

04

Home gyms

Garage and backyard gyms work when the footprint fits our cut-roll floor of 300 sqft, about a 15 ft by 20 ft space. Smaller than that, a retail remnant is honestly your cheaper route. At 300 sqft and up, trade pricing wins.

Gym turf flooring
by the roll

Every roll of Mighty Sport is 15 ft by 100 ft, 1,500 sqft, and weighs 800 to 1,200 lbs. Cut rolls start at 20 percent of a full roll, 300 sqft, and anything above 80 percent ships as a full roll. Ordering details are on our turf by the roll page.

Most turf for gyms orders land as cut rolls: measure your lane footprint, call the counter, and we do the roll math with you before you buy. Outfitting gyms as a trade? A contractor account locks in wholesale pricing on every order.

Frequently Asked.

What turf is used in gyms?

Turf for gyms is short, dense sport turf installed without infill, typically 0.5 to 1.25 inch pile with a high face weight, glued down over concrete, rubber flooring, or a shock pad. Mighty Turf's gym option is Mighty Sport, a 1.1 inch pile, 77 ounce per square yard sport construction sold in 15 ft by 100 ft rolls with cut rolls from 300 sqft. Padded plyometric or kids zones sometimes use a foam-backed specialty turf instead, which is a different product than a standard sport roll.

Can I use landscape turf in a gym?

You can, but most gym owners regret it. Landscape turf runs a taller pile, usually 1.5 to 2 inches, engineered to stand up with sand infill. Without infill it mats flat under sled and foot traffic within months, and the softer blade grabs sled runners instead of letting them glide. Sport turf like Mighty Sport uses a shorter 1.1 inch pile and a denser 77 ounce construction that performs with no infill at all. If the area is decorative and never sees sleds or drills, landscape turf is fine. If people train on it, buy sport construction.

How wide are gym turf strips?

Strip width comes from how the roll is cut. Mighty Turf rolls are 15 ft wide by 100 ft long, so common gym strips are the full 15 ft for a wide sled track or 7.5 ft when a roll is cut in half lengthwise, trimmed to whatever length the room needs. Cut rolls start at 20 percent of a full roll, which is 300 sqft, so a double 7.5 ft by 40 ft lane setup is a typical minimum order.

Does gym turf need infill?

No. Gym turf flooring is built to perform with zero infill, which is the main construction difference from landscape turf. The dense 77 ounce face weight on a sport roll like Mighty Sport holds fibers upright on its own, sleds glide clean, and you keep rubber crumb out of an indoor space. Some installs add a thin shock pad underneath for joint protection, but nothing goes on top of the fibers.
